Thank you for opening up your classroom to a Student Teacher from the Cato College of Education at UNC Charlotte. You are an integral part of our mission to prepare effective future teachers. Because of your willingness to share your classroom expertise and experience, we are confident that our Student Teachers will become the next generation of highly knowledgeable, skilled professional educators.

During this semester of the Yearlong Internship (YLI), your Student Teacher will be in your classroom the equivalent of one day per week. We believe that the Student Teacher working with you and your students this semester will be an asset to your classroom and will learn great things in your classroom environment. The candidates we send into the student teaching experience are ready and excited to offer their knowledge and skills.

The yearlong internship is designed to provide student teachers with more direct contact with the school, classroom, and possibly students he/she will teach during the full-time student teaching semester. During the yearlong internship, the candidate is still taking a full load of classes. The guide for the intern semester can be found in the Student Teaching Handbook located at: https://oscp.charlotte.edu/students/student-handbook. Part 2 of the Student Teaching Handbook applies to the Yearlong internship (YLI) semester. Responsibilities of the Yearlong Intern (YLI), the Clinical Educator (CE), and the Faculty Site Coordinator (FSC) are included in the handbook.

This self-paced YLI Clinical Educator training covers strategies for working with Student Teachers during the clinical experience portion of YLI as well as semester expectations.
