Placement in a Low-Performing School
Per legislative mandate SB 599, all students enrolled in a teacher education program in North Carolina are required to have at least one (1) field experience in a “low-performing” school. At UNC Charlotte, this is defined as a school that:
- Has at least sixty percent (60%) of the student population as free and reduced lunch; OR
- Is categorized as Title I; OR
- Is categorized as “low-performing” by the NC Accountability Model
Please be sure that your clinical experiences throughout your program comply with these criteria. Resources to assist you with this (including demographic information for all schools in NC) are available by utilizing the demographic information contained in the document below. If you have any questions, please contact your faculty advisor or the Office of School and Community Partnerships.
